Letter Sent To City Engineers As Feedback

I understand that we can write to the two of you with the City of Frederick regarding the proposed traffic circle at 13th and Motter Ave. Although since the money for it is already n the FY 24 budget I suspect it is not longer proposed but a done deal. I live on 12th street and pass that intersection multiple times per week, and the traffic circle is a bad idea - I am opposed to it.

I have seen over the years multiple accidents at that intersection. Everyone one of them that I have actually seen is because people merging onto Motter or crossing it do not come to a full stop, they slow, think they can make it across and then go - without coming to a stop.

A lot of the problem is the uncontrolled growth on the North end of Frederick. Especially in and around the Banner school area and up by Wormans area. On certain days (Thursday and Friday) there is so much traffic on North Market that the side streets connecting North Market and Motter are backed up - which never ever used to happen (I have lived here for over 35 years now). In fact it used to take me less than 5 minutes to drive over to Lowe's - Now it can take up to 30 minutes - due to all the traffic.

I think a traffic circle will detract from the appearance of the area, start turning Frederick into another expanse of a suburb like around D.C., and it won't solve the problem. I believe a traffic circle will end up causing more accidents as people try to navigate the circle.

I think the solution is traffic cameras at that intersection where anyone not coming to a complete stop would be sent a ticket for running a stop sign. I believe this would solve the accident problem. Anyone not stopping would be identified via their license plate and be sent a ticket. This could also generate more money for the city. I do believe if people had to come to a full stop and were penalized if they didn't that the concern and issue over this intersection would be eliminated.
