Traffic Oval Feedback

"I believe that a traffic light at that intersection would be best for the following reasons:

1. Starting at Thomas Johnson Drive we currently have 4 traffic lights heading South on Motter. A traffic light at 13th street would be a 5th light in less than a mile. It could be sequenced with the others to move the traffic smoothly down Motter. Most of the traffic on this stretch of Motter is headed south so sequencing the lights would be efficient and easy. 2. To a driver unfamiliar with Frederick, we would be presenting 4 traffic lights in a row and then a roundabout? At night or under conditions of poor visibility the roundabout presents a surprise. Surprised drivers make mistakes.

3. The city should prove a need. I have long since distrusted these statements of need from the city. The city staff has proposed a roundabout and you can be sure they will support it, even if they have to manufacture evidence.

4. The bad news is that the city's fully developed proposal indicates that the decision has already been made and only an overwhelming rejection by citizens will stop the proposal. I hope I'm wrong.

5. I'm a veteran dealing with roundabouts. I spent time in England, drove a car there and had the misfortune of being a passenger in a car that went around a roundabout the wrong way during heavy rush hour traffic. I'm not a fan."
