Traffic Oval Feedback

"I have lived on Frederick Ave (closest to Motter) for almost 3 years and I love the area. My biggest complaint is walking my son to and from NFES and the issues we have getting across Motter. We walk down Motter to the crosswalk at 12th street and stand there for sometimes as long as 5 minutes waiting to cross. Cars do not stop and are constant driving up or down Motter. I called the citty and asked for an additional crosswalk at 13th/Fairview but was denied due to all the accidents there. I do think there is a need to calm the traffic on Motter and I am glad the city is interested in doing something about it, however I don't think a Traffic oval is the right move. Seems to me if you really want traffic to slow down and actually stop a traffic light would be the best. This will also allow for families to cross the street safely to get to and from NFES. A traffic oval will not allow pedestrians to get across safely since cars still don't need to stop to go into the oval and if they aren't looking for people walking, I am worried pedestrians will start getting hit by cars there. A stop light at the area will be the most ideal solution for cars trying to cross Motter at 13th/fairview, slowing down speeders on Motter who will need to stop at the stoplight and allow a safe place for pedestrians looking to cross the street. My guess is it will also be much easier to install a stop light vs. road construction."
