Truck Traffic

"We have lived on 13th st for over 20 years. The semi trucks and trailers with their vibration have caused our foundation to deteriorate requiring structural restoration. The dirt and noise from the truck traffic have increased exponentially in the time we have lived here. There are signs (apparently not enforceable) that are supposed to prohibit truck traffic on this street but, 13th street and Fairview are apparently through routes from Jefferson st to East st. The city needs to establish approved routes that do not disturb residential areas and that can physically support the frequency and weight of truck traffic. These streets were never intended for the current use of heavy trucks. This situation has become even more complicated and congested due to the explosion of housing development near East st. Hundreds of new residential apartments and townhouses will completely bring traffic to a standstill without adequate roads and responsible planning to accommodate the increased traffic. This is unacceptable and I feel that the proposal for a traffic circle will actually funnel more traffic down our street. There are at least three schools within walking distance of this intersection and I dont see how a traffic circle will keep students safer. Traffic circles do not slow down through traffic. The other issue is the number of serious accidents taking place. I would look at the data and I think you will find that there are many more serious accidents at the corner of Market and 13th than at Motter and 13th st. There were two just last week. I urge you to reconsider the traffic plan that is apparently already underway. We, as residents have had no input regarding this plan and Ibelieve it is seriously flawed. Please enforce the no trucks policy on 13th st and reconsider the traffic engineering plan for this street. "
